To protect web crawler software from crawling through
a site's entire html a suggestion was made to include
a file in the root directory (i.e., garbage.html)
which is not referenced from any valid html code.
Whenever this file would be scanned for (i.e., during
a crawl) the suggestion was made to have the IDS send
an RSkill to the offending site of have IDS firewall
interface kill the connection. To complete the
control it was suggested that the garbage file be
configured with a sleeper so connection is killed
before offending party figures out which file is
killing his/her connection, after which he/she would
exclude the filename from search path.
Has anybody implemented this type of control with
their IDS ?
