You have two distinct situations. If you want to test the firewall rules, so
plug the IS 6.1 box outside your firewall and do the scanner. In this case
you have the "cracker" point of view, because you pass trough all the
filters you have implemented to your network.
But when you ask if you have to open ports on your firewall to do this scan,
well... Why don�t you do this inside your network? Yes, it works as you
place your scanner outside and open ports.

Has anyone attempted to scan through a firewall with Internet Scanner
6.1 other than having to create a specific rule for the to open all the
ports for the machine doing the scanning?
