You have to delete the records and then compact the database (don't forget
to do this as it will retain it's 2GB size despite the records being
deleted).
I've had this problem many times before and now I just keep a blank access
database on hand and simply rename the current one. I then fight with the
database offline.
We have decided to go to a SQL solution and get rid of access once and for
all.
