Robert, We run our network sensors on Windows. We are happy with our network sensors running on Windows, and hate to have to move to a platform we are not familiar with.
However, we think soon we will have to migrate to Proventia; we just cannot justify the cost associated with the migration to Proventia. Just saw in the new release of SiteProtector console that a new "Proventia Server" policy was in there, apparently it is a new product, which supposedly combines System Scanner and Server Sensor functions. My guess is that it won't be a upgrade from Server Sensor that is covered under maintenance.. probably will be a similar upgrade path that the first Network Sensor/Proventia was. It would have been nice if all of these "upgrades to Proventia" were covered under maintenance.. My question is, is ISS planning to phase out ALL network sensors, to force people to move to Proventia?? -----Original Message----- From: Shih, Robert [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 5:33 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ISSForum] EOSL (End of Sale Life) of network sensor running on Solaris ! Hi all, I have been informed by ISS that they are going to EOSL of network sensor on Solaris from 1st quarter of 2004! After that, the only supported platforms will be Windows, Linux(red hat only) and of course their appliance Proventia (at $10,000 for entry level Proventia Series A) Currently, all our network sensors run on Solaris which are found to be stable and doing their job fine. Migration from the nearly brand new Solaris platforms to any of the new platforms (W2K, Linux, Proventia) will undoubtedly incur huge investment that cannot be justified. It will be interesting to hear what you (ISS users) think about this. Regards. Bob PLEASE READ: The information contained in this email is confidential and intended for the named recipient(s) only.
