### Describe the enhancement requested So that our CRAN builds are slightly quicker. We have been turning this one automatically https://github.com/apache/arrow/blob/d510b105c991bc2f87a6eb622212e462c249434b/r/tools/nixlibs.R#L600 but we are seeing a failure on CRAN when building.
