The test can find the table function because it's registered already in 
https://github.com/apache/calcite/blob/master/core/src/test/java/org/apache/calcite/test/TableFunctionTest.java#L61



Your exception is from sqline so seems like you will have to register a table 
function somehow when sqline starts and CalciteConnection is created. Basically 
you will need to specify a model file and provide the function name like what 
is done in tests (e.g. jdbc:calcite:model=target/test-classes/model.json). Also 
you will need to make sure your function implementation is in class-path.
