---------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, just out of curiosity. Could you point me to the exert from the SQL
standard that is reflected by the said logic? If I am not mistaken SQL does not
allow constraints on attributes nor fields, making all fields and attributes
nullable irrespective of the nullability of the column. I think the nested
nullability is a Calcite behavior(which personally I like). I'd like to
understand though why the original nullability can not preserved.

> I would like to change the way a type of a field of a record is derived at
> couple of locations. This helps frameworks such as Apache Flink to build
> support for nullable records with not null fields.
> I suggest to change:
> * SqlDotOperator#deriveType
> * SqlItemOperator#inferReturnType
> * AliasNamespace#validateImpl
> * RexBuilder#makeFieldAccessInternal
> * SqlValidatorImpl.DeriveTypeVisitor#visit(SqlIdentifier)
