Just wanted to bring this in as an additional option. I would indeed prefer
this variant because new dependencies have always some potential to cause
problems (e.g. version mismatchs when integrating Commons Configuration in
client applications) - provided we manage to come to a fast and reliable
solution on our own.
But it would also be okay to start with a version that uses an external library
and later aim for an optimization.
