In all plans we're discussing, the existing classes should be deprecated, so
that should just be done.
The question then becomes whether to:
1) add a fixed version alongside the broken one now
2) alter the existing class incompatibly in v4
3) removed the existing class altogether in v4
If the functionality is to be kept, I'd choose option 1, as there is no
guarantee that v4 will ever happen.
