That should fix the NPE.
AFAICT the difference between InetSocketAddress and InetAddress is that the
former allows the IP address to be unresolved.
In which case the Socket is passed the hostname instead of an IP address.
This brings up something else: it's possible that the hostname has different
values on the local and far side of the proxy, so I think any fix would need to
take that into account.
