Cordova always assumes the location of the platforms directory under the
project root directory.
However, in the Intel XDK, support for a custom path for platforms directory is
useful when the project is built in the cloud build server remotely.
In addition, by keeping the platforms directory separate from other project
source codes, the project can be put in the source control for shared
development.
