Die Lizenz (PDL) sieht vor, dass eine bearbeitbare Version des Dokuments zur Verfügung gestellt werden muss, nicht aber in welcher Form! Es ist ein weitverbreiteter Irrtum, dass dies das eigene Quelldokument mit allen Formatierungen sein muss. Es muss lediglich möglich sein, aus dieser Quelle das Dokument zu erstellen (mit vertretbarem Aufwand). Vergl.PDL: 1.10. "Editable Form" means the preferred form of the Documentation for making Modifications to it. The Documentation can be in an electronic, compressed or archival form, provided the appropriate decompression or de-archiving software is widely available for no charge. Das bedeutet, dass ein Zipfile, dass den Text in einem Ascii-Dokument und sämtliche verwendeten grafischen Elemente enthält dem Erfordernis für das "bearbeitbare Dokument" völlig genügt, solange es kostenfrei verfügbar und vollständig ist.
