Another update. I've been working though the complex types (unions, lists,
arrays of maps) to add the required support for unprojected columns. The
support for scalar columns was easy: the complex columns, with all their moving
parts, takes time to work out: we want to have no backing vectors, but we want
the writers to still pretend to write so that clients don't change.
The two remaining are multi-dimensional (AKA "repeated") lists, and both single
and arrays of DICTs. Will keep chugging along to finish those, then will do a
PR with the whole shebang.
