Summary: Web UI returns HTTP 500 with no explanation

When submitting a SQL query through the Web UI I get this error with no
explanation on how to troubleshoot. I'm not sure whether the Web UI query tool
is broken - it may be, as I am able to submit the same query through sqlline
(Drill is in distributed mode, so it's the same drillbit). There has to be an
actionable explanation/error message or at least a pointer to the relevant log
file.
HTTP ERROR 500
Problem accessing /query. Reason:
Request failed.
