Idina Menzel told the crowd gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City
that her career was defined by “the opportunity to put the voice of a
42-year-old woman in a much younger girl in search of herself.”
Menzel and ex-husband Taye Diggs created the foundation A Broader Way four
years ago to give girls from urban communities an outlet for self-expression
through the arts. She read a poem written by one of the children from the
camp, which included the line, “How far do I have to run to catch a dream?/To
see all my beautiful thoughts come to life?” (Variety.com 4/29)
