    I've just seen that there is a (pre this PR) check in 
`DataInputDeserializer.setBuffer(ByteBuffer)` whether the given byte buffer is 
a direct byte buffer or not. In case that the byte buffer is direct, it is 
copied into an heap array. This introduces an unnecessary buffer copy.
    
    This has not been introduced with this PR, but I think it is still relevant.
