Maximilian Michels commented on FLINK-2244:
-------------------------------------------
I think [~tvas] suggests that we should include scripts into Flink that allow
easy deployment of Flink on IaaS providers likes EC2 or GCE. For running the
nightly tests, we're doing this already. Also, the documentation contains
instructions to do that using bdutil:
http://ci.apache.org/projects/flink/flink-docs-master/setup/gce_setup.html
These ways of deploying Flink do not take care of persisting the storage. I
could integrate persistent storage into Yoka without much effort. In addition,
I'd also like to change the command line interface to be able to set more
options via the command line instead of the config file. As a further step, I'd
like to make it compatible with more cloud providers.
> Add ability to start and stop persistent IaaS cluster

> Being able to launch a cluster on GCE/EC2, run some jobs, stop it and restart
> it later, while having persistent storage attached is very useful for
> people/companies that need to run jobs only occasionally.
> Currently we can launch a cluster, but it's not possible to stop the
> instances when we don't need them, and then restart them to pick up where we
> left off.
