 Review comment:
   Categorizing our supported hive versions into '1.x' and '2.x' seems to be 
very broad range. Are we confident and have we tested that this PR is 
compatible with all the 1.x.x and 2.x.x hive?
   
   I wonder if we can just limit the range to just a couple selected versions 
to make things easier and testable.
