BTW, I was trying to apply a few changes to make things a bit simpler:
- hide the Split <-> byte[] conversion in a specific ListState
- consolidate the operator factories and initialize more fields eagerly
- pull the Coordinator Provider out and pass it through the transformation.
I have the code mostly ready, will open a follow-up PR with these changes
once this one is merged.
