What does this variable imply exactly? Do we lose records if failOnError

Nit: Shouldn't the `AsyncSinkBaseBuilder` have an abstract `build()`

Review comment:
Can both classes be package-private or is there a plan to add more
classes using this exception outside of the module? For package-private we
would need the annotation anymore.

Is it enough to only retry completely failed requests or should we also

Review comment:
Can this metric be subsumed by
`SinkWriterMetricGroup#getNumRecordsOutErrorsCounter`?

In general, can you also have a look at
`SinkWriterMetricGroup#setCurrentSendTimeGauge`?
With 1.14 we tried to build a unified metric system for sinks which should
make it users for users to understand and compare metrics across multiple
sinks. You can have a look at the metrics the `KafkaWriter` implements I guess
most of them should also apply here

Review comment:
I think we should isolate this change on a separate commit because it
changes framework code and is not only specific to kinesis.

Review comment:
Some of the fields seem to be not used. Can you clarify a bit more the
purpose of this class and maybe update the doc string?

Review comment:
I wonder if you really need these metrics or they are simply expressed
by the `numRecordsOut` and `failedRecords` metrics. You have probably a better
idea of what kind of metrics are important for kinesis users.

Review comment:
For the unified sources and sinks we usually follow this package name
schema `org.apache.flink.connector.(sink/source)` because they should work in
batch and streaming mode.

Review comment:
Can this metric be subsumed by
`SinkWriterMetricGroup#getNumRecordsOutErrorsCounter`?

In general, can you also have a look at
`SinkWriterMetricGroup#setCurrentSendTimeGauge`?
With 1.14 we tried to build a unified metric system for sinks which should
make it easier for users to understand and compare metrics across multiple
sinks. You can have a look at the metrics the `KafkaWriter` implements I guess
most of them should also apply here
