Yes, I’m comfortable proceeding with this direction. I agree the future should own its terminal transition, so I’ll remove the proposed `fail(Exception)` hook and apply the same contract to deferred and async futures in Java and Python: wrap the core await in `try/finally` and untrack the pending handle in `finally`. Cancellation/interruption and caller-driven system-level exceptions will continue to propagate.
