@RocMarshal thank you for the feedback The serialized format is unchanged, so compatibleAsIs still holds. Added testDeserializeLegacyNonCompactBytes with fixed byte fixtures for 0, 127/128, -128/-129, Long.MAX/MIN and both 9-byte neighbours.
