Good progress here.
I'd be ok committing although thinking more about it might be good to not put
the znodes in place right away, so create them elsewhere and then move them in
place all at once? Or am I just being over-cautious?
Also the unit test could cover more than the normal path. Right now if anything
goes wrong you get into untested code paths.
