One higher level question I have about this whole design is what happens if we
want to replicate visibility tags as Strings over an existing custom
ReplicationEndpoint? That won't be possible today because an endpoint is
implemented by a single class, there's no opportunity for mixing in
functionality. Sorry I couldn't come here earlier, and anyway what has been
committed is fine, but we should figure out what is the best next step here, if
any. One option would be introducing a replication observer interface -
ReplicationObserver - and coprocessor upcall chains out of replication code.
Custom replication endpoint specification could be extended to allow
specification of observer stacks.
