If the observed behavior is for the calling thread to enter an infinite loop
(as Jieshan seems to suggest) I'd say this is a critical issue. (imagine this
happening in a long lived application server)
Jieshan, can confirm that what you saw was a thread entering looping
indefinitely?
As I said above, I think using SoftReferences for caching is generally
misguided.
As far as I am concerned we can just replace SoftValueSortedMap with
ConcurrentSkipListMap.
