I think this is good to go. I'll push it later today barring concerns from 
others.

after the patch I can succesfully run 
{{dev-support/hbase_nightly_pseudo-distributed-test.sh}} on top of Hadoop 2.8 
both for jdk8 and jdk11. There's a bunch of warnings about reflective access, 
but since that's not the subject of this jira I'm not worried about it.
