bq. I too would like to not expose ZK to the client.
The HBASE-23305 master registry work has been committed and released starting
with 2.3.0, so it's not really optional at this point. Committing something
that returns a hard dependency on ZK in the client for region location would be
a regression.
bq. Some comments in this jira is a discussion between me and Andy about using
regionserver instead of the master to provide the bootstrap information.
Generalizing the work to "bootstrap servers" that could be operating in either
of master or regionserver roles seems fine but please let's make that a new
JIRA or at least its own subtask.
