Heya @sanjeet006py @virajjasani I have not had more time to spend on this. My opinion remains that the existing (bad/broken) interface cannot be extended in the way that you propose because it will break backward compatibility guarantees. You'll need some other mechanism for bringing this feature back to the active release lines. It may look more like the "bolt-on" approach that I criticised earlier; it seems you don't have very many good options for this PR. Re: the phased development plan that you mention, I'm not familiar.
