My implementation is not at all related to HBase-4435. It seems like goal of
HBase-4435 is quite different from mine.

Yes, if the scan spans multiple regions then i do a merge sort at the Client
side. Otherwise, if the scan is limited to a single region then i dont need to
perform a merge sort. So, in the latter it's slightly optimized. I've attached
the high level flowchart for reference.
