The external user doesn't have to worry about the lasttxnid, as that will be 
assigned by TransactionBatch.  As long as they bring it in sorted by 
originalTxnId and rowid, and one bucketid per writer, you'll be fine.

You point out that the user could forget to properly sort things and this would 
cause problems, thus you should document it.  I agree, it should be very clear 
in javadoc and external docs.  Would it make sense to provide users a module 
that would do this sorting for them, since all will need to do it and it should 
be the same for everyone?

As far as how you merge being user defined, I see what you're saying.  But this 
seems like an 80/20 thing.  80% of the time users will want to do a straight 
forward match on a simple primary key in the data.  Does it make sense to 
provide a default module for this, and allow users to provide their own if they 
wish?  I am of course suggesting expanding the scope of your work, so if you 
wanted to indicate this as a future direction without doing it now that's fine.
