Could someone please code review this? Hopefully it's fairly trivial. The code
in question had no tests at all so I added more than are strictly necessary for
this change but thought it was better this way. Perhaps [~pvary]?
We have reproduced this in Hive 2.3.2 which the above fix is for. I see the
code affected is no longer there (moved?) in master (targeting 3.0.0) but I'm
not sure if this code has just been moved elsewhere and this fix and the tests
should be moved there too.
