Thanks @tongwai-wong-appier This split-brain become a bigger problem if operating in the multi-parition control topic (a point which I raised during the discussion with bryan as having multi-partition control topic does not help but having single partition control topic actually solves many of the problems). I have simplified the PR for now so that it does not faces much scrutiny for merge. The larger refactoring I am planning to take as a separate PR.
