Nit: can do a switch on content to get either DELETE_SCAN_COLUMNS or
SCAN_COLUMNS to make it clearer. Looks a bit weird, but I guess it works as
DELETE_SCAN_COLUMNS is superset of SCAN_COLUMNS .
