The specified jars were placed inside of the system folder. mvn\:log4j/log4j/1.2.17 = 3 mvn\:org.slf4j/slf4j-log4j12/1.7.7 = 4 mvn\:org.slf4j/slf4j-api/1.7.7 = 4 With the above in place, karaf hot slave will boot up to : log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (shaded.org.apache.http.impl.conn.PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager). log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly. log4j:WARN See http://logging.apache.org/log4j/1.2/faq.html#noconfig for more info.
