Just ran into the issue and found no other workaround than to use HTML tables
inside the markdown file. Documenting the issue and pointing to the fresh
reminder that pegdown has that problem. I would be fine with closing the issue
with wontfix but do not have the time and knowledge to migrate the markdown
module to flexmark-java.
At first I thought this was a problem with the markdown syntax until I figured
out the parser was having issues which is immediately visible e.g. using
maven-site-plugin 3.3 because the parsing timeout immediately is shown when
parsing takes more than 2 seconds.
