artifact-install fails when maven-xdoc-plugin 1.10 is installed

After upgrading maven-xdoc-plugin from 1.9 to 1.10, jar:install goals fail with
the following message:
/home/phil/.maven/cache/maven-artifact-plugin-1.5.2/plugin.jelly:62:9:
<artifact:artifact-install> Error getting the project as a string
Going back to maven-xdoc-plugin 1.9 solves this problem...
Not sure if this belongs to here or xdoc, but I think it worths reporting.
Running with debug messages enabled shows another nested exception complaining
about a unknown "artifactDirectory" tag somewhere.
