I have only limited knowledge of the settings parser and maven resolver but from what I know neither do any special treatment for "central" and as such I dont believe implementing a different behavior in Maven Wrapper as compared to Maven itself is a bad idea and we should no do that. The mirrorOf * setup is typically used with repository managers that Maven Central mirrors and any other desired setup for resolving dependencies. We should not override and hinder such a behavior and this change would do exactly that since the "central" term is hardcoded in the built-in POM (super pom) in Maven itself.
