A banner image without `alt` in `site.xml` was rendered without an `alt` attribute. The Maven parent's banners have none, so every page of maven.apache.org failed axe `image-alt` (critical) for both logos and `link-name` (serious) for the linked one: a screen reader announced the link by its URL. Such an image now takes the project name as `alt` (`alt="Apache Maven Site"`, `alt="Apache Maven Compiler Plugin"`). When the banner has a `name`, the name already gives the text, so the image gets `alt=""`. An explicit `alt` is kept as it is. Only banners change; other images are rendered as before. `mskins-16` gains a named banner and asserts both cases; the `topbar` and `sidebar` ITs expect the new `alt`. Verified: maven-site `a2c5f65c` (3 pages) and maven-compiler-plugin (2 pages) → axe `image-alt` and `link-name` gone, other findings unchanged; `mskins-16` fails without the change; ITs 41/41. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
