Backport of #13789 to 4.0.x, for #13785: both commits cherry-picked without conflicts. Verified on this branch after a clean build: `impl/maven-cli` → 760 tests pass, including the 8 of `InitTest`; spotless clean. The terminal check (Enter on the editable value asks again, then `env:MVN_MASTER` is written) was run on the master distribution, see #13789; not repeated on a 4.0.x distribution. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
