Follow-up to #3568. `actions/setup-java` writes its `java-version` input into `toolchains.xml` as given (`8`, `17`) with the distribution as vendor, so the `[1.8,1.9)` example from #3568 does not match the entry it writes for `java-version: 8`; `generate-jdk-toolchains-xml` writes the full version (`1.8.0_504`, `17.0.20`). The example now uses `[17,18)`, which matches both, and the paragraph says which tool writes which label and that vendor matching ignores case. Verified: Maven 3.9.16 `VersionRange` → `[17,18)` matches `17` and `17.0.20`; `[1.8,1.9)` does not match `8`; `17` does not match `17.0.20`. Toolchain selection by Surefire 3.6.0 behaves the same on Maven 3.9.16, 3.10.0 and 4.0.0-rc-7. --- To make clear that you license your contribution under the [Apache License Version 2.0, January 2004](https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0) check one of the following: - [x] I hereby declare this contribution to be licensed under the [Apache License Version 2.0, January 2004](https://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0) - [ ] I hereby declare that I have filed an [Apache Individual Contributor License Agreement](https://www.apache.org/licenses/icla.pdf). -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
