Relative URLs for images don't work with PDF

Hi
With APT based sites only, one can use a relative URL for images:
[../images/picture.jpg]
With the PDF generation though, this won't work, so we need to have:
[http://site/images/picture.jpg]
Is there a good reason for this. Can it be changed?
