[~mgrigorov] Can you tell us which compiler version you use?
I recall this happening on some compilers, the workaround being running
`configure` with `--disable-werror` (this way, `-Werror=parentheses` is not
passed to the compiler).
However - unless this thing is caused by a compiler bug - it would be great if
someone addressed this systematically, as in most cases treating compiler
warnings as errors helps keep the code cleaner.
