Thanks for the suggestions, @ptrendx! I tried kvstore = 'nccl' but got a different error that I didn't write down. Does it support sparse gradient? Horovod is awesome and I should've started with it, but at this stage I hope not to switch gear unless definitely needed to. As for the instances, I am just playing around.
