# Summary [NIFI-15227](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-15227) Replaces application framework usage of Apache Commons Codec with `MessageDigestUtils` from the `nifi-utils` module. Direct usage of `commons-codec` was limited to the the `DigestUtils` class to produce an SHA-256 digest of several values.
