Start Writer with a document with dummy text.
Goto top-right drop-down-list of sidebar and undock it.
Search for the sidebar ;)
The initial size of the undocked sidebar is too small.
When you have dragged the undocked sidebar to a usable size and then make a
dock- undock cycle the previous size of the sidebar is used. The problem is
only with the initial size of the sidebar.
