I have numerous files that I have created over the years and I have used the
.rtf format to attempt to insure that I would be able to use almost any word
processor with these files.
Previously the files were in MSWord, or Ami Pro formats, so I used Word Perfect
12, to convert all the files to the .RTF format. They are stored as .RTF files
on my cd disk copy, when I copy them from the cd disk to the hard drive I
receive no errors, BUT with Open Office installed any file I attempt to open
has issues.
I will get a blank page, I will get html (formatting coding) without any text,
or I will get the file processed vertically on the page.
Page 1 is the chapter heading, Page 2 is the first paragraph also vertically
(left side down 1" and inset std left side margin), page 3 is the second
paragraph.
For the purposes of continuing the story line, proof reading, and updating
existing files, this is worse than useless.
The reason I chose Apache Open Office was to get an complete set up tools that
work and are not from Microsoft, past experience has taught that Microsoft
Word, Office, Excel, etc. are not as functional as they should be.
