Ok then we start over.

I do not know what you mean by "but for the time being, AOO v.4.1.4 running
64-bit Debian/Ubuntu Linux absolutely chokes on documents over a certain size"
Does the system or open office freeze ( means you cannot do anything.
Ctrl+alt+1 does not switch terminal on linux)

Is this one sentence the issue?

Does this issue apear on other documents as well or you only have one big
document and assume it happens to another document?

Can you produce a test file where these issue happens (the document needs not
to make sense in content)?

I assume the size assumption is currently 24MB, when your system starts to
choke?

Is it important to produce the Document on Windows?

Do you know which files has been updated on the OS your issue is happening (I
assume Linux)?

For us a test case must be reproduceable in order to fix improve code. We need
to corner the issue as exact as possible before we start analysing code.
