Release Note:
This release significantly enhances Ozone's snapshot garbage collection
mechanism (HDDS-12558) to prevent data loss and improve data integrity,
particularly when deleting newer snapshots before older ones. Previously,
certain scenarios could lead to erroneous reclamation of blocks, making it
impossible to read keys from older snapshots.
This update redefines responsibilities for garbage collection services and
introduces a more robust process where snapshot purging is initiated only after
the current and subsequent snapshots in the chain have been deep cleaned.
A snapshot read lock is now acquired during garbage collection to ensure data
consistency, resolving race conditions and preserving data referenced in
existing snapshots.
