[~uschindler] please try it, if you feel confident. I wanted to at least open 
the issue so we do not forget.

Because the change [~dweiss] made is more comprehensive: it impacts any forked 
java gradle tasks, I think we should at least make sure it does what we want 
for solr (which may have some different forked java tasks that lucene does not)
