David Smiley commented on SOLR-14660:
-------------------------------------

We could apply his PR partially but ultimately disable pertinent tests and put
a warning in the ref guide & release notes declaring it to be non-ready /
experimental (use at your own risk). Solid work was done; it's a huge task,
and this gives a way to put a useful milestone on this that has been
accomplished. I'm against removing source files that will re-appear in later
commits because Git & IDEs won't figure out the source history story.

A decision should be made on expanding the scope of the module to be "Hadoop"
but it could wait past 9.0 if we're simply not ready. I can see that the HDFS
tests in particular are a real problem, compelling us to take some action. I
suppose HDFS is totally unfit for 9.0 at the moment and so we can't pretend
things are fine.

> Following up on the deprecation of HDFS (SOLR-14021), we need to work on
> isolating it away from Solr core and making a package for this. This issue is
> to track the efforts for that.
